She's been saying a ton of new words lately...it's super cute. Here are some of my favorite's:
Haddah = Hannah....this isn't new but it's a lot clearer and used all the time. Super cute.
Picky Picky = Pickle...this makes me giggle
Showie= Shower
B=Barry...she runs around after him shouting "B! Ohhh B! Shooo!"
Beep Beep=Bellybutton. :)
Pakey=Pancake
Watty=Water...or milk...or juice

Man cannot live on bread alone?? ...Or CAN she!?
You know that saying: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." -Kate Moss
Well...I have to differ...bread. Bread tastes as good as skinny feels. Not that I really can recall anytime recently where I've actually BEEN skinny...but bread. Bread would and is worth not being skinny for.

What day is it anyway??
Today was a weird day. One where I'm not really sure all day what day it actually is...and the weather was weird...even though I know it's summer it felt more like a muggy fall day...and I just lazy. I got lots done mind you, but I had to talk myself into doing them. And then we transitioned Abby to no bottle a couple days ago...and as I suspected she could care less, and is actually falling asleep faster and better without it...it was me holding on to it I know this. So Abby went down for a nap and woke up saying like 20 new words! Upon waking up she grabs a familiar book, sits in my lap and page by page tells me all the words that she's apparently taken to memory while snoozing!
On top of this, Hannah has been really interested in how to spell things. She will randomly ask me during the day how to spell a whole list of words based on whatever her eyes can get a hold of. I feel as though I have entered a pop quiz spelling bee. So randomly today while outside she wrote her entire name out for the first time:
The little n's look like one m and the last H is sideways because she felt she was running out of room but trust me it's all there. And she's SUPER excited about writing and reading now. So, later we come in for dinner and she asks me to spell a whole list of words. Now, at this point I think: How can I go wrong!? I could totally misspell a word and she wouldn't know. So I spell a whole list of words and finally she asks me to spell "flowers". So I spell F-L-O-W-E-R, and I was multitasking so I didn't really think about the fact that I was asked to spell flowers...not flower until her little voice says: Uh mom. You forgot the S. I asked you to spell flowers. What the-!? hahaha I laughed so hard! I swear she already knows how to spell and is holding out on me. I think it's an inside joke she's got going on. :)And finally in a Little Conversations moment, while the girls were eating lunch and I was cleaning things up I mumbled to myself about where the heck the sun was when I suddenly hear this little Hannah voice: *Ahem* Mom. You know it's behind the clouds and it will come out later. Chill.
I love these girls...they make my day!
That Hannah...she is not easily derailed...
...well ok when it comes to certain things. Namely people and feelings.
Yesterday we read a book about a few kids who were being terribly unkind to another girl in their class and yet at the end the girl who was made fun of extended kindness to the girls allowing them to pass a test they would not have without her help. So it apparently got Hannah thinkin. She asked why on the last page the girl "Yoko" was not standing with the other two girls when they all got along at the end. So I explained that Yoko had extended kindness to the two girls even though they were mean, but it did not mean they had to all be best friends. I also explained, that it's like we've learned in Sunday School etc...that we don't have to like someone or what they do, but Jesus asks us to extend love and kindness even to those who do us wrong or that we are even angry with. Well...this brought up a situation. A past situation mind you...but Hannah really internalizes things. She does not forget, and I'm not joking.
A little over a year ago someone she loved IMMENSELY and trusted really let her down...he hurt someone else she loves incredibly. I remember being angry when during one conversation with him on how to handle things if Hannah came across him, this particular person told me "She'll get over it. Kids are resilient." And my initial reaction was to shoot back "Oh resilient huh? Just like you got over all that happened in your childhood ya mean?" Now...I didn't. That wouldn't have been nice. But if he's by chance reading this...well...now you know what I wanted to say but didn't.
Truth is...kids can be resilient...however, I think we mistake their quietness and silence for lack of caring in a situation. It may appear it does not phase them, but oh it does. Their little hearts hurt. The pain and confusion are there...I think they just don't know how to articulate it most often. I know that this event greatly disturbed Hannah. For months after she would cry about the fact that this person was no longer in our lives. She cried because she didn't understand how someone could be so mean and hurtful toward someone else. She would ask if we could pray for him even if we didn't talk to him anymore. And at one point earlier this year I finally snapped and asked if we could PLEASE stop talking about him. ....And she did. But I know she didn't forget...because he came back up yesterday. She is obviously not as hurt...she is more matter of fact over it all. But it is obvious she is still dismayed and still has questions. And so, we sat and chatted about it all over again because I don't ever want her to feel she can't ask me something or come to me with her questions or hurts or anxieties. I want her to know if she asks me I'll be honest and open as I can.
But it didn't end there. She asks after we discussed this particular situation and how it's weird that someone we once thought we knew so well we do not anymore. And then she asked me if there was anyone else in my life that I don't like but I try to love or try to be kind to. Oh my. Deep breaths. "Yup." I said. ....."Like who?" she asks. So I try explaining names aren't necessary. This does not work. She tells me she is curious because it's a very hard thing to be nice when someone hasn't been or has hurt someone you love. I try skirting it...avoiding it...changing subjects....and finally I decided to just be honest. I gave her a name. It's not a big deal. Nothing I've said was out of a mean or haughty spirit. I did not say it in hopes that she would join me in my dislike for the persons. I just told her, there will always be people we struggle being around because of things they've done, or because they continue to make bad choices and be hurtful or because we don't think they are being truthful with us. But it doesn't mean we have to be mean and rude. We can be honest, but we still need to be kind. Well, that was that. She seemed just fine with that and we discussed a few more things on kindness and moved on.
Later as I was talking to Adam about our conversation, I told him the conversations were going to get crazier if she was already that intense at almost 4! I do want our kids to know though, that nothing is off limits. I think it's good to talk about things that come up, even when it's about specific people or it might seem uncomfortable, because if they aren't getting the open and honest answers from us....who might they be getting them from? Family should be a safe place to discuss things...even if it means they are hard to talk about and address, or uncomfortable to talk about. If Hannah or Abby have specific problems I want them to be able to come to us and say so, or ask the questions that surround a situation. Sometimes it's not fun to discuss something or someone. But the truth is, I think we all become a lot stronger when we can put that aside in our families, discuss, and be honest but kind.

For love of Motherhood...
http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/motherhood-is-a-calling-and-where-your-children-rank#.TiG9akuv1T0.facebook
I totally agree with this. Motherhood is a calling. And we need to look at it as a blessing and a joy instead of as a burden or as one more accomplishment we can check off our life's list. I am totally in love with my kids...there are sacrifices you make for sure...but it's so worth it to see the wonderful little people they become as a result.

Tonight
Tonight I went jogging. It's been awhile. But sometimes my body actually gets an itch to get out and do something other than biking or walking. And so tonight I went jogging. I won't say running because...well that's what my sisters do and if you put me next to them it would be obvious that what I do is not called running...so I won't even try to call it that.
Still...when your body isn't used to that it can sometimes feel like you are dying...only tonight it was fabulous! I was trying out the new (free!) running shoes my sis Holly shipped me for free a few months ago and they felt great. It helps that my body in general is feeling SO much better than it has in about a year. Like I said, I'm not an overly fond of running particularly...I like how it makes me feel later...MUCH later, and I love that I can get out and listen to my music selection without grief. But the evening turned out to be so beautiful....it's been muggy and cloudy and rainy all day today but right before I headed out the clouds started to disappear and the sun started poking through. I did a loop out past an orchard and in farmlands and then down to the river to sit and stretch and listen to some beautiful music for awhile. And while I was out I was thinking about all the beautiful women in my life...both moms, all my aunts, my sisters and my grammas...good friends...and my own girls, all beautiful and strong in their own ways. And I couldn't help feeling so blessed and so full of love! And I got down to the river and the clouds completely dispersed and the sun that was going down came out in full strength over the ledge I was sitting on and it was perfectly marvelous! It was energizing and wonderful to be able to be out for an hour enjoying the evening sun and the thoughts of all the beautiful women in my life that I love so....what a wonderful evening I was handed tonight.

Lil Togetherness Time
Hannah and I had a date today...took a bike ride just her and I to the library, got new books to read and picked up her prize this week for all her finished reading logs, walked to get a coffee and italian soda and sat at a park to read our books and hang out in the sun and then rode to get a rootbeer and chips and salsa. We had a pretty perfect afternoon. :)

A Favorite Moment...
Fireworks happened Monday night up @ Papa and Gramma's house. One of my favorite moments of the weekend was during the fireworks as Abby, who was clearly in awe of the amazing display of light and sound, puts her hand up to her mouth in shock and says "Gasp!" Really cannot get enough of her.
Oh Abby...
Tonight Adam and Abby aren't feeling so good. Abby's dinner came back up along with lunch...and then the cracker she tried eating...and then the water she tried drinking. So as I put her to bed tonight, we normally do a small amount of milk...I know this shouldn't be the case, and we're working on it but I can't bring myself to totally take that away yet. Only tonight it wasn't an option. I was not about to give her a bottle of milk no matter how small. So she flops her head down on my chest and gives slight protest to the fact that the normal routine is missing and suddenly-she starts humming to herself. BLESS this girls heart she'll just adapt to anything. So she just sits there humming a little tune. Finally I whispered, "Did you want mama to sing to you." She just nods. A few songs later and she's out. I love her. She melts my heart. She has the best attitude always...for tonight I am praying she wakes up feeling much better.
" Well where's da watty?!"
Watty=water
