Abby Joy @ 5 months!

Abby turned 5 months old on the 21st! I can't believe it! What a cutie! For the first several months she and Hannah looked SO much alike at the same stages! But she's starting to look more like my side of the family...except for her ears which are all Adam! I love it! It makes her so cute and endearing!
I love the 5-6 month mark for babies! It was around this time that Hannah got so fun and her personality developed and really started showing through! I see the same happening with Abby! (Hannah calls her Abby-ba-gale!) Abby is trying to grab and reach everything she can see. Last night she got her buns up in the air and her legs folded up under, but then she doesn't know what to do with her arms! They get stuck underneath her! But she rolls every direction she can the minute you put her on the floor, and she scoots around in a circle. She's started waking herself up by flipping herself onto her back and then she starts chatting to herself.
She is SUCH a happy baby. Abby Joy indeed. She is so calm and chatty and happy. She's a very content baby. The only times I've seen/heard her freak out are when we enter a checkout line at a store, seriously almost EVERY time! I then become that mother that people want to leave the store as quickly as possible! (Thank you though to all the amazing checkout clerks who have taken it in stride and tried making her smile and laugh while we're standing there waiting!) The other time is when she's tired. This girl is serious about her sleep. I am having a REALLY hard time with how easy she is to put down. I say hard time because I feel like it's too easy...like I need to be doing way more for her. But when she's tired and it's nap or bedtime she gets a certain cry, rubs her eyes and all she wants is for you to smooch her and lay her down in her bed...she's usually out 5 minutes later. Minimal fussing if any!!!
I don't know what to do with this! Hannah was and still is a hard person to get to sleep. Not near as bad as she used to be but when she was a baby she was a horribly light sleeper and never wanted to be alone in her room by herself (still doesn't) and you'd have to rock and sing and bounce for like an hour to get her to shut her mind and body off long enough to relax. She still wants you to stay and sing with her and "soft" her to sleep. Not Abby man! Naptime rolls around...and she seems to be saying, Just go away! In fact it gets worse if you try to soothe her! She starts pushing away from you and gets louder and louder until you just put her down. Singing? FORGET it! I still am not used to this!
It will be fun to see what this month holds for Abby and her personality and skills! I am excited to start seeing more of this beautiful little girls personality. We love her so!

Beach Trip

Well I wrote about the weekend and somehow it got erased and i'm not in the mindset to write it all out again...so here are some beach pictures of our impromptu beach trip the last few days while Adam was away camping with his brother on their anual camping trip:

Becca and Deb brushing up on their spanish!

My Gramma brought a special gift for Hannah and she didn't even know she was going to be there! It is an old antique suitcase with a lamb and handmade blankets and a purse with Hannah's name on it!
My Gramps could not get enough of Abby. He held her more than anyone the whole time and was unwilling to give her up! They bonded. :)

The Red, The Fat, The Beautiful....

I love reading...as much as I can do it I do. There's been times I've obviously had more time to do this but a couple years ago when I lived in McMinnville, a friend I worked with who became like a sister to me started up a book club with me and her and a handful of other people. I LOVED it! It was the kind of bookclub where you would meet at a different persons house about once a month, depending on the thickness of the book, and have great food and great conversation.
You could read only half the book, you could read a chapter...you didn't have to read the book at all really! No one cared or judged whether or not you actually finished it. When all was said and done we ended up only talking about the actual book for about 10 minutes during the evening anyway. The book or topic would lead us to other conversations and we'd all feel free to voice our opinions...and we were a group of women with opinions lemme tell you! It was just fun! I completely enjoyed getting out and getting to spend time with these women about once a month. Sadly, a couple things happened where we weren't meeting as often and then my friend ended up moving to another state to try and find employment. I was sad...because the book club was no longer.
I love a good discussion. I think I've always been this way. My dad really fostered this in me I believe and there have been times throughout the years that I've had times to sit and have great discussions with him about any ole thing that comes to mind. And when I read books I love to have someone that has read the book or wants to read it after me so I can get their take on the book, love hate or otherwise.
Recently I purchased the book, "Eat, Pray, Love." (If you've read this or are reading it, my blog title will make sense.) I realize it's been out for awhile and I remember when it came out, vaguley hearing about it, and I'd see it in a book store and think about it but for some reason it never really appealed to me. I never even looked to see what it was about! Fast forward to a few months ago I'd randomly heard more about the book and thought I wouldn't mind reading it. About 2 or 3 months ago I decided to get it for me and my sister that lives here in Oregon. So I ordered it off of Amazon and waited...it took an unusually long time for it to get here, normally Amazon is fairly quick. And in that time I heard promotions of the movie based off of it and wanted to see it even more. I watched the Oprah episode where she had Julia Roberts on who plays Elizabeth, the author, in the movie and Julia Roberts mentioned that when she got the book she got a couple pages in and had to immediately call her best friend and order her a copy so they could read it together, and discuss as they went along. How funny! I had just ordered copies for me and my sister!
Right before I left for a small trip to Washington the book came. I left it at home along with my sisters copy on her bed. A couple days into my being gone my sister received a major blow in her life. It's been a really hard last couple months for her. In the last two weeks she's been reading the book at night before bed and I until last week wasn't able to start it. But now we're at about the same point in the book and I can already tell this will be a book I will be reading several times over. I already want my other sister to have a copy so she can read it too! There are things I want to highlight....quotes and sections I want to revisit. This is one of those books that can in the span of a few pages make you think about who you are and who you want to be and how you'll get there. It makes you laugh, and parts of it make you sad. So far it is a marvelous book!
And I completely recommend reading it along with someone...kind of in tandem! It's great! hehe This way you can point out things in the book you think apply to yourself and each other. Kind of a book club as you go! Very marvelous! I am looking forward to getting to pick this book up whenever I can and then call or ask my sister what part she's at! (And Holly we may just be sending a copy your way!)
So the old book club is no more...but I think I am liking this new kind of book club even better. :) And as long as there is a book club and books to discuss, sign me up!
